Before taking leave of Driggs, ID, we couldn’t resist photographing its First Bank of the Tetons, in which a granary is central to its design. We thought that feature was such a clever idea for an area like this where granaries are everywhere. It does make you wonder, though, whether the bank’s vault is in the granary.

Adrift on the Snake River .... ah, doesn’t this look like fun?

Commercial float trips are plentiful around here --- or, you could do it on your own as this fellow was doing near Jackson.

Driving north from Jackson again, we admired the Tetons one last time and then entered Yellowstone National Park from its south entrance. Following the Lewis River Gorge, we eventually encountered beautiful Lewis Lake. Although it appears very large, it is actually small compared with better-known Yellowstone Lake.

There were many dead pines in this area. We’re not sure yet whether these stands were killed by fire or by beetles. Fortunately, new growth is already evident.

To some people, crossing the Continental Divide is nothing more than another excuse for a photo.

Having completed a brief introduction to Yellowstone today, we hope to experience it in depth Tuesday and Wednesday. Tonight, we’re staying in West Yellowstone, MT, moving to Gardiner, MT, tomorrow.
