Moving into Idaho, we crossed the highest bridge in the state, east of Bonners Ferry, 600 feet above the canyon:

The Bonners County Fair was in full swing near Sandpoint, ID. We were fascinated by this auction of four-legged animals for the benefit of their 4H owners.

Small country fairs like this one have a genuine, homey feel. There was no charge for entrance or parking and the outdoor grounds were all grass, not asphalt. How often do you see that?

Coeur D’Alene’s waterfront and downtown are especially pleasant on a sunny day. This rather bizarre building is the Coeur D’Alene Resort. A 3300 ft long floating boardwalk encircles the marina in front of it with great views of Lake Coeur D’Alene.

The main downtown street is decorated with many funky water sculptures, shade trees and hanging flower baskets, making it a delightful place to stroll.

This afternoon, we arrived in Spokane --- as far west as we intend to travel --- with the intention of visiting friends from long ago on Sunday.

Since Spokane is a sizable city, dancing was also on our menu. Amazingly, the top three possibilities we had lined up for this Saturday night had canceled their dances because of a painting project at one and fires at the other two! Spending nearly as much time tracking down a fourth option as we later spent dancing, we found another possibility at a nearby Eagles Lodge. Since we are not members, it took some lobbying on our part and some friendliness on the manager’s part for us to enter. It turned out to be a most enjoyable evening in a nearly new, entirely smoke-free building with a great band and a fine dance floor. Gees, if the Eagles back home catch up with this nonsmoking idea, we may have to consider joining!
