Much of the hike to Hidden Lake Overview is on a boardwalk and this is the view going back down. Although a boardwalk may give the impression of a very easy hike, it’s not THAT easy at 7000 ft elevation: the steps themselves are hefty and, in between, the boardwalk has a substantial incline. Of course, the spectacular scenery is the perfect excuse for catching your breath whenever needed.

For those who might suspect these are store-bought slides, a little proof of our presence is provided:

After the hike, the descent from Logan Pass on Going-to-the-Sun Road was almost anticlimactic. By then, the haze over the valley was thick and good photos were beyond my ability and equipment. We reached the valley floor using a thimble-full of gas as it is almost entirely downhill. A stop at the Lake McDonald Lodge for lunch and a brief walk along Lake McDonald completed our stay in Glacier NP.

Our last Montana spectacle was seen by walking a short distance from the highway to the falls of the Kootenai River:

These roaring falls are just east of Troy, MT, on Hwy 2. Looking back, it is interesting to note how much of our trip to date has been on Hwy 2, which begins at the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan and ends at Everett, WA.

Tonight, we’ve made Sandpoint, Idaho, our temporary home before proceeding tomorrow to the westernmost point of our trip, Spokane, WA.
