There may be some folks in Hallock, MN, who wish the town was a more bustling place than it is. For our part, we relished its serene atmosphere, thoroughly enjoyed our quiet Friday evening walk around town and thankfully missed the buzz of activity during sugar beet harvest.

Leaving Minnesota behind, with a shout of “Hurrah!” we crossed the Red River into North Dakota, our first time ever in this distant state. It was a gorgeous day for a first time visit --- the kind every Tourist Bureau touts. Staying in Minot tonight and reviewing the day’s photos, I think we’ve captured scenes fairly typical of the area. Here are a few.

A roadside pond:

This one is typical of the many attractive ponds that decorated the fields. In the Turtle Mountains, it seemed there were even more and some were lakes, not ponds.

The International Peace Garden, on the US-Canadian border in central North Dakota, celebrates the friendship and peaceful coexistence of our two countries. As you can plainly see, it is a beautiful place.
