One of the nice things about living in central PA is the opportunity for visiting farms during a summer event called the Centre County Farm Tour. For $10 per car, you can visit as many farms as you can cram in during the “open house”. This year, we aimed for a leisurely afternoon by concentrating on a single farm near Spring Mills. Worked by Amish, this one features a very old barn now used primarily for wood working, horse stabling and buggy parking. The setting is quite attractive:

The aged barn is easily spotted by gazing uphill from the garden area:

If you didn’t appreciate its age from a distance, you surely will as you approach:

We discovered later that the upper floor of the barn contained woodworking tools, materials and partially finished pieces. The ground floor contained items we rarely see up-close, such as barn swallows and their nests and two buggies like this one:

Patty, Chris and Diane enjoyed a fine view of all the farm buildings by wandering uphill from the barn:

The view wasn’t bad from the back of the barn either:

Nearing the end of our tour, I spotted this attractive woman looking my way .... or, was she estimating the grape harvest, I wondered? With farm girls, it’s sometimes hard to tell.
