Since Lucca was as close to the Mediterranean Sea as we were going to get, we went out of our way to take in a little salt air. At the recommendation of our B&B owner, we rode the train to Castiglioncello on the coast, south of Pisa. Here, we were told, we could find a walking path along the water ... and so it was.

Returning to our starting point, we could honestly say we had walked all the way across the bay:
