Leaving the ferry after a 3-hour ride, we were settled in our hotel and ready for a walk down Lambton Quay by early afternoon. As befits the capital city of New Zealand, there were many well-dressed workers bustling about on this busy weekday afternoon. Behind these two gentlemen is the Beehive which houses the Executive Branch of Government:

This attractive building nearby is the Parliamentary Library completed in 1899

In an alley off Lambton Quay a life-size sculpture immortalizes this gentleman of a bygone age and his devoted pet:

The modern Civic Square, located near the harbor, has many novel touches. Facing it are the Central Library and Town Hall:

This eye-catching structure has our vote as the most striking commercial building in the city. It is an office tower called the Majestic Centre:

There are even lights on the ends of those little spiky things!

As dusk was approaching, we rode the cable car up for one last view from the top:

In the foreground is a private residence. What a scene to enjoy every day!

Right on schedule, the cable car climbs the hill once again. This handy vehicle provides quick transportation between Lambton Quay and the Botanic Garden:

So ended our walking tour of wonderful Welly. We certainly could have used another full day in this breezy, clean and energetic capital but, alas, that lament was true of many sites on this trip.
