Not having seen Cousin Bonnie and her husband Dick for many years, we found much to talk about. These parents of seven children have lots to smile about --- all seven kids are married and moved out, the youngest just last month. With their children, grand- and great-grand children all living close by, their family gatherings are incredible.
We were happy to receive an extensive tour of Boise from our hosts, who are long time residents. Below are just two snippets.
The capital of Idaho, Boise is a city that seems to keep growing.
Among its wealthy and influential citizens is J. R. Simplot, a billionaire best known as the potato supplier for McDonalds well-liked French Fries. His 7400 sq ft mansion atop this hill can be seen throughout the city (weather permitting):
Not long ago, Simplot donated the mansion and its surrounding 36 acres to the state to become the governors mansion. Idaho has not had one since the former executive residence was sold in 1990 after it fell into disrepair and past governors refused to live in it.
