Sod Houses

Near the southern Minnesota town of Sanborn, we pulled into a farm to explore a replica of a “soddy” built in 1987 by the resident farmer:
Surrounded by what seems miles of prairie grass (planted by the same farmer), this sod house was available as a Bed and Breakfast for many years. It has wooden floors and is still furnished as if guests might arrive soon. The author of “Little House on the Prairie,” Laura Ingalls Wilder, grew up in a similar sod house only a few miles away on the banks of Plum Creek. The signs tell the whole story:
