If “achieving goals” was the reason for this trip, well, then we aimed for several: enjoy an early escape from winter, visit son Greg in Dallas and Patty’s uncle and aunt near the TX-LA border, explore many areas of the country we had never seen before and, of course, postpone that lengthy “honey-do” list back home.

The route we chose took us initially to the warmest place we could imagine, the panhandle of Florida, and then headed for Texas:

Obviously not the shortest way to Texas and back, this trip logged 5500 miles on our Prius, which sipped gas as frugally as ever. The most remarkable aspect of our springtime journey was the near-absence of any significant rain over the whole six week period! Lord knows, places we spent days in (such as Nashville) were inundated with heavy rain just after we reached home. Not once on this trip did we have to worry about stormy weather ahead along our planned route! Wish we could credit that to careful planning but our weather-controlling skills are as primitive as anyone’s.

Other than the cooperative weather, memorable highlights of this excursion were the two visits in Texas; success in finding Texas wildflowers in such abundance; a leisurely, three-day drive on the Natchez Trace Parkway; and a myriad of small but delightful surprises all along the way. The occasional bike ride and dance while traveling added considerably to our pleasure. To execute such a long trip as this and to have it unfold nearly as hoped, leaves behind a feeling of accomplishment as well as sincere thankfulness for the many miles of safe traveling.
